Let's talk about healthy fats

Healthy fats are essential for energy and cell growth. They also help protect our organs and help keep our bodies warm. Fats help our bodies absorb nutrients and produce important hormones too. Our bodies need fat.

Healthy fat refers to monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. What makes them healthy is that they help reduce LDL cholesterol, the kind that clogs your arteries.

Types of healthy fats:
* Avocados
* Walnuts
* Other nuts like almonds, pistachios, macadamia, Pine nuts and seeds like sunflower, pumpkin, chia
* Olive oil - don’t cook with olive oil bc it turns rancid when used at high heat
* MCT oil
* Eggs
* Fatty Fish (wild caught fish like salmon, sea bass, cod, etc)
* Hard cheese (Parmesan)
* Dark chocolate

Try to incorporate fat into every meal and snack. Think fat, fiber, protein and greens when eating!

One easy rule is to try to avoid trans fats—they’re listed on the nutrition label as partially hydrogenated oils. These are the fats that clog the arteries.
